Go Kart Club of SA – Monarto – 18/3/2017 to 19/3/2017
Time has flown this year, and we arrived very quickly to Round 1 of the Clipsal 500 South Australian State Championships. The series has been sponsored by the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar race, and the Cadet 12 class has been supported with free entry and tyres for competitors.
Jim qualified in second place, giving him that starting position for heats 1 and 2.

Heat 1 was an exciting affair, with the lead changing multiple times. Unfortunately, Jim didn’t quite have the pace, and finished in 2nd. Heat 2 followed a similar pattern, with numerous lead changes, but again, the pace wasn’t quite there and Jim finished in second.
Jim started the pre-final in second, got a good start to lead for a lap, but didn’t have the pace to hold the position and finished the heat in second. This was to be the story for the final as well, with Jim finishing in second place.

Jim picked up a big bag of points for the series, but we have a bit of work to do to try to find some extra speed for the next round. Looks like we will be putting in some overtime over the next few weekends to close the gap in kart speed!
Jim would like to thank Iocane, WIFA Racing, EvoKart Australia, Haak Engines, and his mum and sister for all their support. Thanks also to all the officials and volunteers, without whom Jim couldn’t race.
Christine has been relatively well behaved recently, but I’m sensing a mean streak starting to appear. It’s not one thing, but rather, a bunch of smaller things.

In a display that can only be described as petulant, Christine decided to hang on to a bolt so tight that it broke one of my tools while I was trying to undo it. Not cool. I know this wasn’t my mechanicking, as I use a different tool to do the bolts up so they aren’t over-tightened. Spooky…
The current score:
JP -> 3 (Survived 2 weeks without hurting himself, use of Angle Grinder Persuasion, Ancient Spirit Mumbo Jumbo)
Christine -> 8 (Burn by exhaust, Degreasing of the eye, Magical Goggle Piercing Metal bit, Special Combo, Epidermal Peel, Degrease, Rinse, Repeat, 98 Octane Eye Wash, Inappropriate Tool Grabbing).
