Time to go… Camping?
The weather seems to be getting warmer, so we thought we would do something different for the River City Titles at Monarto. We thought we would camp on site, meaning we could have a bit of a sleep in on Sunday.
Well, that didn’t really go as planned did it. Saturday was a beautiful day, and Sunday was just a nice, but the night bit in between seemed determined to remind us that it wasn’t summer yet. Temperatures dropped down to near zero (the weather station in the trailer indicated it was below zero at 6:00 am), so we didn’t really sleep that well and got up nice and early just to warm up.

Jim qualified in second place, but we had a bit of work to do to get onto the pace. We made some changes for the first heat, and managed to make a contest of it, finishing in second, a tenth behind Christian.
We made some additional changes for the second heat, and Jim was slightly off the pace, finishing in second place about 8 tenths behind Christian.
The pre-final was over fairly quickly with a first corner incident taking out 3 of the competitors, including Jim.

Based on the rules of the race meet, it was final only counts, so Jim was still in for a chance. He started off second for the final (based on points accumulated in the previous heats). Christian managed to pull at a small gap of about half a second, but Jim chipped away at this to be right on Christian’s bumper bar. Unfortunately, laps ran out and Jim had to settle for second place, a tenth behind Christian.
Well done to Jim’s team mates. Kelvin Kirk finished in 3rd in Cadet 9, and Aaron Oliver finished in 4th in Cadet 12.
Jim would like to thank Iocane for their support, his mum for all her support (and of course the snacks), Steve Oliver for helping with kart setup, and all the officials and volunteers without whom he wouldn’t get to race.
