Southern Go Kart Club – Bolivar – 8\/7\/2017 to 9\/7\/2017<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The final round of the State Champs was here, and Jim was sitting in second place.  The championship was pretty much decided, but pride was still on the line so Jim was keen to give it his best shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday started out wet, and practice was held on a drying track.  Jim was second fastest in both practices, so he was around the mark for qualifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track was damp all weekend. This was taken on Sunday, but I’m sure no-one reads these captions anyway.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Jim did really well in qualifying, putting it on pole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim got a reasonable start in Heat 1, but he was in second by the first corner.  He made a move later in the lap, and was back in the lead by the end of the first lap.  He then held on to take the race win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again in Heat 2, Jim was into the first corner in second place.  He quickly got back on terms, and was in the lead after the second lap, and managed to hang on for the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday decided to throw up some interesting challenges.  The track was wet when we arrived, and most of the classes were heading out on wets.  It was slowly drying, but those competitors on slicks were falling behind those on wets.  Even so, when it came to  Cadet 12 heat 3, most of the kids were on slicks, including Jim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the right choice, and again, Jim got a reasonable start but found himself in second at the first corner.  He made a move halfway through the lap, and again held on for the race win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s at this point it decided to rain.  The track was quite wet, and racing was delayed while the standing water was cleaned up.  Again, all of the classes were heading out on wets, and the track was still quite wet at the end of the class before Jim’s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the karts were on wet weather tyres, but by the time they hit the track, it was pretty much dry.  Jim got off to a good start, and was leading after 10 laps.  Unfortunately, his rear tyres had been cooked and the performance of the kart fell away.  Jim managed to hold on to second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim would like to thank Iocane<\/a>, WIFA Racing<\/a>, EvoKart Australia<\/a>, Haak Engines, and his mum and sister for all their support.  Thanks also to all the officials and volunteers who worked out in the rain, without whom Jim couldn’t race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, on to Christine.  Yet again, she was very well behaved.  I think she tried to burn Jim’s mum at some stage, but it appeared to be a half hearted attempt.  I am getting fairly concerned that she is saving up for something big, so I have taken photos of all my fingers so they can be identified if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
