Southern Go Kart Club – 19\/11\/2016 and 20\/11\/2016<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let’s start off by saying it was hot.  Really hot.  I think everyone who raced would like to thank the officials and volunteers who stood out in the hot sun for 2 days to allow this race meet to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim started off the race meeting really well, qualifying in second, just 4\/100 of a second off pole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first 3 heats  were closely contested, with Jim finishing in second in all of them.  This meant that Jim would start in second for the prefinal, and his finishing position in the pre-final determined where he would start in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, this is where things went a bit wrong.  Jim was running second in the prefinal, and was involved in an incident a few laps from the end, resulting him him not finishing the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This meant Jim had to start from the back of the grid in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim got a reasonably good start, and picked up a few places early on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim kept working his way through the field, eventually getting up to 3rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is starting to sound a bit like a song by Queen…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

He was closing the gap to the leaders, but there just wasn’t enough laps for him to catch them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a great drive to salvage a result from a challenging starting position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim would like to thank Iocane<\/a>, WIFA Racing<\/a>, EvoKart Australia<\/a>, and his mum and sister for all their support.  Thanks also to all the officials and volunteers, without whom Jim couldn’t race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would a race weekend be without Christine?  I was doing very well (or so I thought), so I decided to give the kart a bit of a clean on Saturday after the racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine decided to go with a classic, and tried the old ‘Degreaser in the eye’ trick.  Having not seen this trick in a while, I was lulled into a false sense of security and ended up with an eye full of degreaser.  Yep, fool me once, shame on you…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luckily, I had a beer close at hand, and the pain went away after a drunk a few of those…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
