Barossa Go Kart Club – 5/11/2016

This race meeting combined a bunch of different events all into one, including:

  • The Jenke Vintage Classic
  • The Cadet/Junior Challenge
  • Adelaide Restricted Zonal Championships, Rd 3
  • The Cadet 12 Freestyle Beatbox and Rap competition

Jimmy started off pretty well, qualifying in second.

He did pretty well in the first couple of heats, finishing second in both.

In the pre-final, Jim started in second, dropped back to 3rd, and managed to get back to 2nd by the end.

Jim started the final in 2nd.  The kart took a bit too long to come on though, and by the time he got up to pace, he was in 3rd and the gap was too big to do anything about it.  Based on the competition format, Jim finished 3rd for the meet.

Now I’ve sort of rushed through the race results as I’d like to take a bit of time to talk about one of the young racers.  Annalise Ellis was racing in the pre-final in Cadet 9 and lapping another competitor at the end of the straight when her kart flipped.

Thankfully, Annalise wasn’t seriously injured, and she displayed enormous courage by getting back into the kart and competing in the final.  Hopefully she hasn’t damaged herself too much, and she can be back and racing in a couple of weeks time.

Finally, on to the presentations.  As this was a night race, I was a bit tired during the presentations, and my memory is a bit fuzzy.  I think I can work out what was going on from the photos though…

Reuben wanted to relive his days in cadet 12 (i can’t understand why else he would be up there, as he is in Juniors now), so he asked to get the ‘band back together’.  The boys obliged, and Jed commemorated the moment by busting out some rhymes, and displaying his beatboxing skills to a very appreciative audience…

Jim would like to thank IocaneWIFA Racing, EvoKart Australia, and his mum and sister for all their support.  Thanks also to all the officials and volunteers, without whom Jim couldn’t race.

Finally, the update on Christine.  All I can say is “She’s back”.  Some of my mechanicking restrictions have been lifted, and I’m now allowed to make some minor changes during races.  Christine hasn’t been idle though, she’s been developing her talents, including working on her patience.

Christine decided to wait until I was packing the kart into the trailer, before scraping the skin off a couple of fingers.  Thankfully, my blood clots fast, and the bleeding stopped after 15 minutes or so…

Well played Christine, well played.

Current score:

JP -> 3 (Survived 2 weeks without hurting himself, use of Angle Grinder Persuasion, Ancient Spirit Mumbo Jumbo)

Christine -> 5 (Burn by exhaust, Degreasing of the eye, Magical Goggle Piercing Metal bit, Special Combo, Epidermal Peel).
