Southern Go Kart Club – Bolivar – 3/4/2016
Time to support Cancer Research in SA.
The Cancer Council Open is a race meet run by the Southern Go Kart Club, with a portion of the race fees being donated to the Cancer Council of SA.
This year the race was run on a beautiful sunny day. Let’s get the important stuff out of the way straight up – The kart didn’t manage to injure me in any way this week – that’s 2 weeks in a row, so I’m claiming the win.
Current score: JP 1 (survived 2 weeks without hurting himself) – Go Kart 2 (Burn by exhaust, Degreasing of the eye).
Due to my poor recent form with the spanners, Jimmy has taken on a new apprentice mechanic. It’s gone so far that I was banned from even picking up the kart in the weigh shed.

Jim worked really hard during practice on Saturday, to iron out some more of the bugs in the kart. This effort showed up in a really consistent performance on Sunday. Jim managed to put the kart on pole, and took out the win in the first heat.
Heats 2 and 3 were close affairs, with Jim finishing in second in both.
Heat 4 was a really exciting race. Jim started in second, and managed to get into the lead for a few laps with a great overtaking move at the end of the straight.

Jim ended up finishing in second, and took away second for the day.

Things are starting to look up, and we seem to be on top of the issues we have been having over the past couple of months. We are now starting to develop the kart again, and working on improving the overall pace of the kart.
Jim did manage to set a lap record during the day – It was an unofficial lap record on a Huffy Slider round the circuit – 2 minutes, 25.22 seconds. As far as we are aware, this is the fastest ever recorded Huffy Slider lap (trust me, we are claiming it).

Thanks go out to Jim’s sponsor Iocane, and to CRG. Jim would also like to thank his mum for all her support, his sister (Alicia) for the excellent photos, and all the officials and volunteers for putting on the race meeting.
